Working with the staff at Hilton Singer Island is always a treat, but as I entered the double doors leading into the Hilton lobby on the sunny November morning of Kim and Phil’s wedding, I had no idea how wonderful of a day lay ahead of me. Planning a destination beach wedding is always a little tricky – so many pieces of the puzzle must perfectly fall into place and I am always on edge leading up to the day of the wedding, patiently preparing for whatever could go awry. Things always fall perfectly into place, though, at this beautiful beach-side venue, and that is just a small piece of why I adore working with Hilton Singer Island so much.
Kim and Phil, business owners from Topeka, Kansas, were engaged in front of Buckingham Palace in England before visiting Ireland, where Kim found the perfect wedding dress in a castle shop. They visited the Singer Island area on vacation in 2017 and decided right then and there that they wanted a tropical beach affair with all of their closest family and friends; they put a deposit down on the venue that very day and requested a room block.
Planning Kim and Phil’s destination wedding from Kansas to Florida brought me all of the tropical vibes, and even had me listening to Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville as I sketched out their floral designs in my studio – with just enough red hibiscus, a request from the bride herself. I worked closely with the talented Sarah at Sarandipity Floral to pull the florals together and create impactful pieces that truly created a tropical oasis, both on the beach and on the patios.
As Kim finished getting her hair and makeup done by the team at Sammy’s Suite, she seemed as calm as ever, casually taking sips from her Starbucks drink and giggling with her girlfriends until Karen from Nassimbeni Photo + Films took her outside to see her groom-to-be for their first look. Even then, Kim and Phil showed no signs of nervousness, and I will attribute that to both an awesome vendor team and a wedding that was also a vacation! (Sign me up for one of those!)
Relaxed and simply ready to tie the knot, Kim and Phil greeted their guests at Coconuts On The Beach, the beach bar on the back patio of the Hilton Singer Island. When they finally walked down their sandy aisle and said, “I do,” a tear welled up in my eye as they laughed and kissed one another, finally as husband and wife.
For the remainder of the evening, the guests proved to be just as fun as Kim and Phil were themselves. Phil’s mother wore a gorgeous hot pink dress that perfectly suited her personality, and Kim’s sons were not shy on the dance floor whatsoever. Masso Entertainment kept the party going well into the night until the bride and groom shared a final dance alone on the dance floor… later joining their guests for the after party at the beach bar, of course!
